Virgin Media and Eir have agreed a deal to carry their sports channels on each other’s TV platforms in a move that will make it easier for rugby fans to follow the upcoming World Cup in Japan.

Under the agreement, Virgin Media Sport will be available to Eir customers as part of the Eir sport pack and in turn, Eir sport will be available to Virgin Media TV customers.

The new arrangement comes into effect ahead of the Rugby World Cup and new seasons of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. However, it does not include English Premier League football matches.

The agreement also covers tennis (Wimbledon), racing (Cheltenham, the UK Grand National), gaelic games (Allianz league) and golf (US Masters).

As well as every World Cup game, fans will also get to watch Six Nations and Pro14 rugby games and a number of Heineken Champions Cup matches.
